Food Forest: initiating a forest garden project on degraded land

Location: Vale Cortiças, Odemira

Our first project from Wild Forest Garden began in 2021. After several years of experimentation on the land we were ready to begin planting the 0.5ha site, inspired by syntropic agriculture. Brought to life by many supporters in the local area who were keen to get their hands in the soil.

The aim was to bring back old fruit varieties — creating a fruit library with over a hundred old varieties of apples, pears, plums, nectarines, walnuts, pistachios, apricots and many more. The site is irrigated through a lake, which is further replenished by the forest garden.
